Got the kinks out on today’s swim

Saturday night I only got 6 hours sleep and Sunday I spent a few hours eating pizza and drinking beer, followed by a dinner out to help a friend celebrate his birthday. It happened to also be “restaurant week” here in San Diego which means a handful of restaurants offer special menus, which ultimately means a big meal, a drink or two, and dessert. Because the place had a tiki theme, I had no choice but to order a mai tai. Well this drink must have had about a cup of sugar and been around 500 calories!

After the tiramisu dessert, I was done for the night.

So this morning I didn’t feel fantastic to say the least, but decided to swim the masters swim workout at noon to work the kinks out. The pool is still set up long course (50m) to my liking, and I had a good workout (about 50 minutes and 2600 meters). It helped that the sun was out and it was about 77 degrees today here in San Diego in January!

It’s amazing how I feel like a different person now that I swam. I think swimming can sometimes force a transition in your day- which is partly why I like to do it at noon.

I probably still haven’t worked off that meal but tomorrow I’m hitting the gym and running 5 miles so I’ll be good as new!
