No doubt 50m long course is better and outdoors 50m is even better yet. I always swim a portion of my outdoor long course with a chair at the opposite ends with a bright towel hanging over it to practice sighting and swimming while lifting my head. The closer to the first races of the season I have to do this more because after getting used to swimming all winter in a short pool with my head down, my neck kills me if I go right to an open water race without my neck getting used to lift my big fat head for a whole race.
